In this video I’m playing with a great new app I got for the iphone. I composed this piece to demonstrate it in use. I’m playing slide in open D tuning (D A D F# A D). For the most part I’m playing a major scale with the occasional b7 and #4. Obviously I’m very inspired by Indian Classical music.
This great App for the Iphone is called Shruti Box http://shruti.itabla.com/
You can hear the app droning in the background. I have my iphone running into my Boss Loop Station via a mini jack plug. Then it’s running into my amp which is a Victoria 35115 Tweed. Overdrive is via a Wampler Slostortion.
The Shruti Box is great for setting a drone to either sing or play over. You can use it to practice intervals. You can also experiment with modes and dig into the unique flavors of each one. It’s a great addition for ear training.
I recommend spending some time singing and then playing each interval. Don’t rush through them.. Become one with the Perfect 5th… Wax on, Wax Off… Then once you feel like you’ve bonded with your new friends the “intervals”, start singing a simple melody over the drone. Try to figure out the intervals to the melody by ear, THEN play it on guitar. Rince, repeat until clean…. Thank me later.
