Set it and Forget It

Remembering settings for gigs can be tricky when you have several pedals on a board. Sometimes knobs get bumped in transport and you have to reset things in soundcheck. That is if there is a soundcheck. A great way to get around this if you don’t want to go the iphone picture route is to use art tape. I cut a piece of art tape and place it on each pedal. Then I’ll write the knob positions on it with a Sharpie. I can look down and notice if anything is different. This is great if you don’t have a set it and forget it configuration.
Art tape is a good choice because the glue isn’t very strong and won’t pull any of the paint or graphics off your pedals. It also leaves no residue behind.
Any art store will carry Artists Tape as well as Sharpie markers. For about $7 you can take the frustration and stress out of setting up with no soundcheck. Even with a soundcheck it makes life more enjoyable. The more organized you are the smoother things will go which means you’ll relax and play better.
